This Site Is Dedicated to Breaking the Diet Drink Addiction!!

My name is Mike Witt and I have created this site to help the thousands of people who are addicted to diet drinks like I was kick the habit. I want to share how I broke a 7 cans a day, for nearly 10 years Diet Coke habit, in just 5 Days with no withdrawal symptoms at all. This was an exciting time in my life and I wanted to share my experience with those who struggle as I did to quit this tough addiction.

Thanks,
Mike Witt

Just reading the comments, headaches are a common withdrawal symptoms for many things. You just have to stick it out in order to conquer the addiction. One day the headaches will just disappear. I promise and I speak from experience.

Hi, I’m 14 and I am addicted to diet coke. I drink about 5-7 cans a day, and cant eat a meal without it. I have read some other comments and most of you are older than me. I am worried. If I keep up this bad habit now, will it get worse as I age? Or is it bad that I am addicted so young? I’ve tried many times before, but I can’t quit. Help me please

Well, its nice to know that I am not the only one!! I hate to think how much of my budget each month goes to Diet Pepsi!! My husband jokes that we should buy stock in it!! I always have to have at least one two liter in the house and if I am running low, I will go back out at night to get more for the morning. To be prepared for Christmas, I went out and got 7 six packs (24 oz bottles) of the stuff! Plus three 2 liters. But I am now starting to realize that this is a huge addiction!! I always thought it was crazy to consider this an addiction, it’s not smoking, or drugs. But reading this webpage it does show me that it is! I realize it doesn’t matter who drinks the most, that is like competing to have the worst grade in classes! Yes I am a college student! 28 years old, with a six year old daughter! I don’t want to pass on my bad habits to her, or be taking from her life early. Thats why I think it maybe time to quit. My husband is deployed, so I have no reason not to be successful! Yes, stress, but tell me anyones life that isn’t stressful. I have been addicted to this stuff since I was a kid. I DON’T drink anything else!! I am even considering calling my PCP to discuss options to aid in my quitting, but I think having a support network might help as well. On average I drink at least 1 six pack 24 oz bottles daily, more during finals or the nights I can’t sleep! It’s time for a change! Plus I could save up all the money from soda and possibly buy my husband the new SUV he has been wanting!

Well its official Dec 26 will be the day I cut down, cut out my beloved soda! I want to wait until after Christmas so I am not a bear with my daughter!

I’ve been addicted to diet coke for years. I once stopped for a full year. What’s strange is I didn’t notice such a big difference in me. That shocked me and sort of gave me permission to begin again. I just love it.

Now, the effects of diet coke are unmistakable. I get a bit foggy headed and lose any sense of well being. Motivation is also affected.

I need to get off it.

I have been an addict since I was 16 and I am now 42. I drink 24-30 cans a day. I have tried to stop a few times but I always fall off the wagon. Not only is my health going to suffer but financially it is killing me. I am glad to know I am not alone. Thanks for all the encouraging posts

Oh my gosh! I thought I was the only one who was like this! I have been drinking diet soda since I was dancing ballet/modern over 20 years ago! I have one first thing in the morning, last thing before bed, if i wake up in the night, I have another. I have one with me all the time. I take one with me when I leave the house, always have one nearby when I’m coaching! I always know I am setting a bad example for my gymnasts, but I can’t go without one. If I do, I get crabby, have headaches and terrible cravings and I have to stay energetic, upbeat and happy for the kids. I have replaced water with Diet Coke for years, although I’ve been doing a little better lately. I force myself to drink water. I even take my medicine with Diet Coke. I am going to stop now. It has been 24 hrs since my last one. I am replacing it with regular pepsi for a day or two in an attempt to fool my brain, and at least I won’t be cutting the caffeine at the same time. Then Sunny D and water. My biggest side effects will be intense cravings, headaches and moodiness. I know from past attempts to stop.

  10. Shana says:

I quit before for 3 weeks, and the headaches didn’t get bad at all, but I was like a zombie. I had zero energy. It wasn’t lack of caffeine, because I was getting that from other sources, but it got so bad I gave in to have a diet coke, I was my old self within 5 minutes. Has anyone else experienced this? And how did you cope?

  11. Natalie says:

I drink 6-8 cans of Diet Mountain Dew everyday and I am quitting. Im only 21 but I have been doing this for ten plus years. I also drink alcohol once a week and maybe 3-4 energy drinks a week. I’m done. With all of it. BOom!

I’m not addicted to diet coke, but my boss is. And it’s gotten to the point where I felt compelled to go online and look up the side effects of this soft drink to see if he is in for a bad outcome. Compared to many of those posting here I guess he’s not that addicted. He usually drinks about 3 or 4 20 oz. bottles a day; that’s only during my shift, though. He owns the company and is here almost 24 hrs a day. My coworkers from other shifts tell me he’s also drinking that stuff. Poor man.

  13. Jean says:

I have been addicted for a little over 20 years. I have recently had a 6 month break from it. Last month I tried to reintroduce myself to it only once in a while, as a treat. I am now slowly progressing back to my old habits. I started at the age of 16. I drank the Tab and Diet Rite and then later Diet Dr Pepper. Eventually I went to Diet Pepsi and settled on Diet Coke. I am always seen with a diet coke in hand. I start out in the morning with a diet coke and drink it until the time i Go to bed. I drink about 8 – 44 ounce cups of diet coke a day. I always carry a 2 litter with me so I can refill my cup. The thought of going with out it sends me off into a panic. If I do not have it I am extremely irritable and obsess over it. This stuff tastes wonderful to me, but I am convinced after personal experience that it is the equivalent to a drug. My waist line is huge and I believe I have insulin resistance and maybe even metabolic syndrome. I am not a diabetic, but I am over weight and probably even considered obese. I am 100 pounds over weight!! All of my weight is in my stomach. I believe this is due to the aspartame and benozates in the diet soda. I have researched a little online about this toxic drug and it appears that the FDA approved the aspartame even though it was found to cause brain tumors in rats. I believe it is linked to cancers. I personally know several people who have passed with cancer and they all were soda drinkers. I am going to try to stop again. May the Lord help me!!

Wow! Googled diet soft drink addiction and found I wasn’t alone. I’m currently trying to give up diet coke and pepsi max. I have some good days some bad currently I have gone 3 days without pepsi max and diet coke, my best run was 4 days. Some times I give in when I’m weak and drink 1 can 375ml only. Since giving up I no longer have itchy legs and my skin is 100x better. I was drinking 8-10 glasses of water per day and also drinking 2 375ml cans a day, until I completely gave it up and my skin was never as clear as this!!! Fingers crossed it lasts. Problem is now I look to fill the void. I actually crave chocolate and lollies flat out, before it wasn’t as bad. Obviously my body is going into some type of shock. I’m determined to go a full week without any diet drinks and get rid of the sugar addiction which is starting to take hold. I lost 34kg now in a healthy weight range (first time in my life ever) if I can beat weight I can beat addiction. I sometimes get headaches and bad mood swings because I want it sooo bad!!! I try and stick to my diet but sometime I need a lolly or chocolate. We can all beat this. If I can do the full week it’s a massage treat full body for me!!!! DON’T GIVE UP!!!!

I’ve done similar things before Terance, I wouldn’t consider myself an alcoholic but I would drink 3 beers a night. So I quit that for a new years resolution and replaced those 3 beers with 4 diet cokes… in addition to the 2 or 3 I’d have during the day. It took six months before I started getting Kidneystones bad, My father convinced me to give up my new years resolution and go back to beers. Right now I am down to 2 diet cokes a week, and I think I’m going to cut those out totally. In my life I’ve quit smoking, quit drinking, and now I’m trying to quit this. Quitting diet coke is by far the hardest addiction I’ve tried to give up.

I am just like most. I drink two 32 oz fountain diet cokes at a time.It has turned into about anywhere from 8 to 12 fountain drinks a day.

I am a dental hygienist and my husband is a dentist. We are both addicted. I am also breastfeeding twins and I need to give up the habit. I also found out that I have full blown osteoporosis (no other medical conditions) from a 15 year soda habit. I have no other bad habits but this one and I have tried many many times to quit. I drink about 4 cans a day. I makes me feel terrible at times but great at others. I wish I had never gotten started on this stuff because now I seem to need it to eat. I find bubbly water helps but this problem has started to impair my sleep and makes my blood sugar go nuts. I need to find a way to get rid of this stuff. My husband is a bigger addict than me. Drinks 6 or 7 large bottles a day and isn’t interested in quitting. It scars me how much we both drink diet coke.

I need help to quit drinking diet coke! I have 3/4 large diet cokes from mcdonalds.

  19. Terance Mendoza says:

Just wanted to let all know that today I put down my last diet coke. Well.. threw it away actually once finished! What addict puts anything out or away until the last bit is gone! I have a unique story with diet coke that started in 2005. You see, I’m an alcoholic and when I got sober I basically replaced the beer with diet coke. Imagine that! I literally drink from 12-24 cans a day, no water and very little food. I smoke on top of that and all the caffeine contributes to my smoking more. I have developed a “smokers cough” and have constant fatigue, headaches, and sinus problems as well as sore joints and muscles as someone described here previously. I have to stop. I’d done it before, just said that’s it, i’m done and lasted about 4 months. Felt way better. Then one dinner, one night, one diet coke. That’s all it took, the next day I had a case in the fridge. I feel your pain on this, what a chore putting this down. I have a prayer (don’t mean to step on toes but it helped me quit drinking, among many other things) that i say if a withdrawl pang gets real bad. “God, I’m not going to die if I don’t drink this, but if I do, take me, all of me.” When stopping alcohol, this helped. Good luck to everyone with staying away from this acid.

WOAH… I thought I was alone all this time! I am 22 years old and I have to drink about 6-10 cans a day of Diet Coke… Every time I try and stop, I have horrible headaches and its all I can think about. Then I break down and I buy some and I feel fine. Everyone laughs when I tell them that I am addicted to it until they see me all day everyday with Diet Coke in hand. Its so bad that I stash a couple of cans in my purse when I leave the house to make sure that I dont run out when I am out and about. I want to quit so badly but I cannot handle the headaches and cravings,

  22. JW says:

I am 35 and was completely addicted to Diet Coke for the better part of 10 years. I drank about 12 cans a day, sometimes more. I would switch to Caffeine Free at about 5:00 pm so that I could sleep. There were many days that I drank nothing but Diet Coke. I have had bad back pain, pain across the kidney areas, irritability, dizziness, and other symptoms from time to time. I would not leave the house without one (sometimes two) cans of soda. We would go to the store and buy 3 or 4 24 packs every Sunday for the week – thats right, almost 100 cans for 7 days. I reasoned that its only soda and not like being an alcoholic or something worse.

I have been free about a week, except that I drink one on my morning commute (I do need a little kick start). Otherwise, I drink water, occasionally with a water enhancer. After only one week, I feel like a new person – so much better. 90% of pain is gone and I sleep like a baby, whereas I used to toss and turn with back and kidney area pain.

I’ve been drinking diet coke for almost 20 years now. I didn’t even realize I’ve been drinking it that long until I came to this site. I’ve tried several times over the years to stop. I went on a health kick a couple of years ago and was able to slow down a little, but every time I tried to stop, I felt awful. I get headaches and my mood changes. I know that diet coke has some pretty bad ingredients and I’ve read up on them, and even that isn’t enough to make me stop. It’s the first thing I have in the morning and I have at least 8 a day. On days when I have less, I can feel it. This almost seems silly to have an addiction to such a thing, but it is an addiction. I just don’t know how to stop it. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I am addicted to coke since I was young and until now im 27 still into it. I’ve made many promises already to quit from it but here I am still indulging from coke over and over again. I drink in just one sitting 2.5L of coke and everybody feels bad for me. They said I have to quit or else I’ll be sick someday. I know the bad effects but I cant help it. It feels so good to just have a gulp of it and I know I’m already addicted to it. I cant eat without a can of coke. When I found this site, I got so interested. I hope this would help me. I need to quit before its too late. Thank you.

I feel really bad for all of you. However, i had to laugh. I drink approx 2 gallons a day. and its easy to do. i start out at 7am with a 44oz from the gas station. I drink that on the way to work. I drive about 30 mile to work, so thats down. Well, then i have to get another 44oz before i start work, that will last until breaktime. yup another 44oz. then lunch one or two more 44oz. then mid afternoon 44oz. then one for the ride home and you guessed it, one for home. well thats 7-44oz which equals approx 308 so divide that into gallons, and its alittle over 2 gallons
let me tell you, its very easy to do. however, i think my brain is glowing green from all the artificial sweetner. PLUS i have been drinking diet soda since the TAB era

I’ve been addicted to diet coke for about 3 years now and I’ve really just accepted it. I know it’s probably not the best thing to do but come on its too nice not to have! I drink about 3/4 cans a day and can go a day at the most without it but whenever I’m thirsty the only thing that will quench it is diet coke. From the look of this site I’m not as bad as some people but still think I have a problem as every time I take a drink of a new can I feel so relieved and my eyes go red. Its almost better than sex. Don’t know how some people can give it up!
